First Look: Sugarpill by Shrinkle

By nel in cuteness

Today, I received my Sugarpill order in the mail! Sugarpill is the exciting new highly pigmented cosmetics line by Shrinkle.

As many of you may know, I’m a crazy makeup addict. I have too much makeup right now, but I had to get my hands on some of this goodness. So I only got 2 loose eyeshadows.

I love the super cute packaging!

Goldilux is the best gold shadow i’ve ever owned in my life! If there is one color you should own from the collection, this is it!

Magpie is a lovely shimmery metallic sapphire blue.

In terms of quality, if you like Urban Decay eyeshadows and MAC Pigments you will LOVE these! These are really pigmented! Each jar has the same amount of pigment as a jar of MAC Pigments. I personally rate Urban Decay shadows higher than MAC in terms of pigment and quality. To me, MAC is good for basic everyday stuff. I would put Sugarpill up there with Urban Decay, BUT Sugarpill is cheaper and you get way more product. $12/shadow for 4g Pressed or 5g Loose.

But that doesn’t mean the quality suffers. All the shadows are cruelty-free and not tested on animals. And a good half of the products are Vegan. And they are really long lasting.

Goldilux is the best Gold ever! It beats out all of my Urban Decay golds. I know it took Shrinkle a lot of time and hard work to get this line up and running so I can totally understand why there’s only a limited number of colors out. But I’m excited to see it grow and see what other new products will come out.

Now here’s a quick look that i put together cuz i was so excited to try them out.

Go Check out Sugarpill!

Giant Robot Needs Our Help!

By nel in Graphic Design, cuteness, fashion, food, handmade, illustration, literature

I think in this day in age, we’re starting to see a serious decline in the print industry. it’s sad to say but, print is dying. with the invention of the internet and popularity of blogs, many people no longer feel the need to purchase magazines or continue their subscriptions.

Giant Robot has grown to become a cultural icon, with it’s long run publication and their gallery/stores across the country. Although the focus of their magazine was Asian/Asian American Pop Culture, the content of the magazine touched on a range of topics that could appeal to anyone regardless of your background. I remember hearing about them in high school and came to really adore them in my first year of college. I remember I, along with my friends, Nisa and Tiffany dreamed of one day creating and owning an establishment like Giant Robot. GR has had an influence on me and had a hand in making me the person I am today.  They introduced me to Kozyndan‘s insane panaramics, Twinkie Chan‘s food scarves, and Barry McGee’s alterego Ray Fong. They had a huge influence in developing my love for art and design.

And now, they’re in trouble. We’ve already seen I.D. Magazine announce that they’re folding back in Dec. 2009. How many more extraordinary magazines must we see disappear? I really do no want to see GR go under in my lifetime.

Help them out with a donation! With your support, they can continue producing this amazing publication.

Bowtie for Scruffy Kitty!

By nel in cuteness, handmade

Kevin’s been sewing some Kitty plushies that he wants to put on consignment at Flock Shop. So I’ve been making little accessories for them. Today, I made a bowtie for one and think it makes him look 10x cuter.
