Wig Fun!
By nel in fashion, hairA Little Buried.
By nel in handmadeI received a lovely e-mail from Habit Chicago this morning to let me know that my Bow Beat Fingerless Mittens are selling really well. They also asked if I could send me more. In my mind, I was thinking YAY! That means there should be a check on its way to me. But that also means, I have tons of more work to do. =/
I’m currently working on inventory for Nucleus’ Co-Lab Craft Fair and also inventory to my etsy. I’ve been pretty behind because I’ve been pretty busy with school. I’m working on designing a special edition double box set of Belle & Sebastian’s If You’re Feeling Sinister and Camera Obscura’s Let’s Get Out of this Country.
Don’t forget, if you’re in the LA area December 13th is Nucleus’ 3rd Annual Co-Lab Craft Fair! I’ll be amongst many great vendors, so drop by and say Hi!
P.S. Your mittens are almost ready Cuppy!
Kombucha Baby!
By nel in food, teaSo this week, I finally found flavors of GT’s Kombucha that I can actually enjoy. My favorites right now are the Mango and the Strawberry. Kevin’s been wanting to grow his own kombucha for a while. it would save us so much money, considering a bottle of store bought kombucha is about $4 for 16oz. He read somewhere that you can actually grow your own kombucha mother (the culture used to make kombucha, looks like a giant gelatinous mushroom form) using tiny bits of kombucha mother that are floating in some store-bought bottled kombuchas. So we used the bits of mother I saved from my Strawberry flavored kombucha and a whole bottle of 100% kombucha and this is how much it’s grown in the past few days. And the rest of the liquid is brewed tea. I believe Kevin used some oolong.
We were extremely surprised at how fast it’s grown considering it literally started as bits and strands. So far it’s formed a nice layer over the top of the liquid. There’s some bubbly chunky island-like forms in there but it’s probably from the original bits we put it. We’re really hoping that this works and that the kombucha doesn’t die. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Sucker for Contrast
By nel in fashionOMG! I want this dress so bad! It’s absolutely adorable! This is one of Leanne Marshall‘s new pieces. As you may know, Leanne was the winner of Project Runway Season 5. You can see what other amazing things she’s up to on her blog.
Read for Leisure
By nel in leisureI happen to be a huge fan of J.D. Salinger, and yet I still haven’t read the Catcher in the Rye. And if you’ve noticed, I still haven’t read it.
One of my goals is to start a new habit, or routine if you will, of reading for leisure. I’ve found that these days, with basic cable, there’s really nothing to watch on tv. I seem to enjoy premium cable channels when I’m at Kevin’s house, but when I’m at home I’m constantly channel surfing looking for something to watch. I’m also one of those people who leave the tv on even though I’m not really watching it for the sake of room noise.
So in any case, I’ve decided to try to devote my free time to reading and rereading awesome novels. The first of which is Franny and Zooey. It was one of the books I chose to read off of a list of required summer reading in high school. and I admit that I never properly read it. Actually, I didn’t read most of the books I was supposed to read in high school. I’ve just never thought of myself as being a very good reader. and by that i mean, i like books and novels and i like reading them. i’m just bad at reading them when they’re required. and reading with a deadline.
This also leads to me wanting to redesign the covers for 3 Salinger books for my portfolio. Yet another project idea that i need to execute before March 2010 so I can apply for the BFA program. Fun Stuff!
