So I’ve taken a break from most of my social networks since my summer started. This only really means I’ve been on Twitter and hardly even touched Facebook and Tumblr.
I just came back from Illinois last week. I got to spend some quality time with my siblings. All of them. And that quality time reminded me of just how much they drive me nuts.
Starting today, I will begin the long overdue rebuild of becausemaybe.net
I had some ideas brewing for the past few weeks, and more ideas just keep on coming. The projected date of completion is July 31, 2010. I gave myself a little wiggle room to get it done. I’m expecting this to be the only design work I’ll be doing this summer. Well actually, I might squeeze in working on a submission for Communication Arts’ Call for Entries for their Typography Issue. We’ll see.
Come August, I hope to be working on the highly anticipated Men’s Collection as well as starting on Fall/Winter inventory.
I gave myself a month to be a slacker. That’s reasonable. Now it’s time to get back to work.
So I’ve begun working on the upcoming Men’s collection. This is will be my first time releasing a men’s line and I am very excited. And I have many male friends who are excited as well.
I spent the majority of my day finalizing this project for portfolio. There’s still so much to do. The above is a test mock up. I’m getting ready to print the final and mark it up. What pisses me off is for some reason Franny and Zooey is a tad taller than the rest. I want to put it through a guillotine. I don’t know why the publisher did that.
My friend over at Kuro shared this with me. I think it’s a fun little piece. But I would like someone to explain to me what Google Wave and Google Buzz are for, because although I have both my general response to them is… Isn’t that what Twitter‘s for?
It’s starting to get really close to portfolio review. it’s about 2 weeks away and i have several projects that are in progress, some a little closer to being done than others. The about is a poster I designed for a past show and it’s the only project in my portfolio that is 100% done… ok maybe 99% done because I haven’t printed it yet.
Tonight I went to the Cat and the Fiddle for my friend Diane’s birthday. I took my last drink before the home stretch and wished myself luck. My last drink was a Boddington’s, and boy was it good.
I started doing a series of videos to document my state of mind during the portfolio process. This was the first video i made with a quick explanation to the early years of becausemaybe.
Today, I received my Sugarpill order in the mail! Sugarpill is the exciting new highly pigmented cosmetics line by Shrinkle.
As many of you may know, I’m a crazy makeup addict. I have too much makeup right now, but I had to get my hands on some of this goodness. So I only got 2 loose eyeshadows.
I love the super cute packaging!
Goldilux is the best gold shadow i’ve ever owned in my life! If there is one color you should own from the collection, this is it!
Magpie is a lovely shimmery metallic sapphire blue.
In terms of quality, if you like Urban Decay eyeshadows and MAC Pigments you will LOVE these! These are really pigmented! Each jar has the same amount of pigment as a jar of MAC Pigments. I personally rate Urban Decay shadows higher than MAC in terms of pigment and quality. To me, MAC is good for basic everyday stuff. I would put Sugarpill up there with Urban Decay, BUT Sugarpill is cheaper and you get way more product. $12/shadow for 4g Pressed or 5g Loose.
But that doesn’t mean the quality suffers. All the shadows are cruelty-free and not tested on animals. And a good half of the products are Vegan. And they are really long lasting.
Goldilux is the best Gold ever! It beats out all of my Urban Decay golds. I know it took Shrinkle a lot of time and hard work to get this line up and running so I can totally understand why there’s only a limited number of colors out. But I’m excited to see it grow and see what other new products will come out.
Now here’s a quick look that i put together cuz i was so excited to try them out.
I think in this day in age, we’re starting to see a serious decline in the print industry. it’s sad to say but, print is dying. with the invention of the internet and popularity of blogs, many people no longer feel the need to purchase magazines or continue their subscriptions.
Giant Robot has grown to become a cultural icon, with it’s long run publication and their gallery/stores across the country. Although the focus of their magazine was Asian/Asian American Pop Culture, the content of the magazine touched on a range of topics that could appeal to anyone regardless of your background. I remember hearing about them in high school and came to really adore them in my first year of college. I remember I, along with my friends, Nisa and Tiffany dreamed of one day creating and owning an establishment like Giant Robot. GR has had an influence on me and had a hand in making me the person I am today. They introduced me to Kozyndan‘s insane panaramics, Twinkie Chan‘s food scarves, and Barry McGee’s alterego Ray Fong. They had a huge influence in developing my love for art and design.
And now, they’re in trouble. We’ve already seen I.D. Magazine announce that they’re folding back in Dec. 2009. How many more extraordinary magazines must we see disappear? I really do no want to see GR go under in my lifetime.
